Well, after watching this anime called beck ( http://animenfo.com/animetitle,1484,daovhh,beck.html
Pretty much its about a kid, then later on he starts to play the guitar, meets this band and what not w/e its really good. This really got me excited again, like back when i first got my guitar in 2002ish, but after awhile i stopped playing and i dont remember a damn thing, but when i try and look at tabs and i see those numbers
5
5
7
My head just starts to hurt, i try not to get angry, that wont do anybody any good, so im pretty much looking for a place to start, i know i need to control my fingers, my pinky likes to go whichever way it feels , i dont know anything about cords for sure. I tried playing this, thats where the headache came in.

Intro Verse play twice clean tone,
then twice w/ distortion
its the used - the taste of ink
e----------------------------------------------------
b----------------------------------------------------
g----7-5-4-5-7-5-4-----4-4-7---4-4-------------------
d--7-------5-5-5-5-7-7-----7-7-----------------------
a--7-7-----3-3-3-3-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-------------------
e--5-5-5-5---------3-3-3-3--------------------------- this is the bottom string right? by my leg

Pre-chorus w/ distortion
e----------------------------------------------------
b----------------------------------------------------
g--55555555------------------------------------------
d--55555555------------------------------------------
a--33333333------------------------------------------
e----------------------------------------------------

I am not too sure what all of your questions are, but I will clarify one thing: When you are looking at tab, the bottom line of the tab represents the 6th string (lowest pitched string, closer to your chest, not to your leg). I was also confused about this a bit at first. Seemed to me that they would set up the tab like the guitar. But looking at it from a musical standpoint, the lower note (by pitch) would be on the lower part of the tab, as it is on the musical staff.

By the way, if I were just starting back off and trying to relearn everything, I would avoid all those bar chords for a while.Good luck and enjoy.

Yikes that intro is a mess. Is that tabbed right. How much do you know about playing tab? It kind of looks like it has two guitar parts combined into one. Try and find different copies of that tab on the net or see if you can find it to play in guitarpro or powertab. You may find one a little simpler than that.
Looks like powerchords on the bottom 3 strings and the melody on the G string. Thats a pretty tough way to get back into guitar. Why don't you start with some of Kirks' lessons and work your way up to more complex pieces. Just a thought.

since your into power chords, here is a primer about them. I don't think you will find to many of them in Kirks' lessons.

I am assuming you have an electric guitar. Power chords don't work well on accustic, so if you don't have one, focus on other areas for awhile.

The tab looks like a mess... either it's made that way, or the forum's formatting messed it up since you dont have it wrapped in the code tags.

The numbers in the tab represent fret positions

e
B
G
D--5
A--7
E--7

For example would mean you would put your index finger on the 5th fret on the D string (on a regular Right hand guitar, it's the 3rd thickest string, and 3rd down from the top of the fretboard). The middle finger would be on the 7th fret on the A string (2nd down from top of fretboard), and the ring finger on the 7th fret of the E string (Top string on fretboard).

With tab, the layout of the strings would be as if you layed the guitar on your lap facing upward, with the Low strings being on the bottom to the higest strings on the top. It is a bit tricky for someone who hasnt played for very long.

Guitar: 1) Behringer Stratocaster; Webstrings Memphis Electric Xlight strings; Dunlop Picks

2) Ibanez TCY-10 Talman Series; Elixir Light strings.

Lol - no the bottom line doesnt represent the string nearest your leg. Check out this site for a simple explanation about tabs (among other things). It's directed at beginners so it should be simple to understand:
