Understanding Chord Books

Hi,

I'm new today to this Forum thanks for having me.

I'm a complete beginner and I would like a answer to my question
which I expect is rather a stupid question, but anyway here goes!!

You know those books you can buy in the shops ie:

The Silver book of Chords or The Paltinium book of Chords or
any Bands book of chords for that matter, the book shows the chords
printed over the words to the song, How do you know the strum pattern
ie how many times do I strum the C chord and then change to the A chord
and how many times do I strum the A chord until I change to another chord etc etc etc ? And how do I know the BPS of the tune are there any books that give the BPS of the tune so I can try and get the right strumming pattern going?

I hope you get the idea of what I'm going on about

Hope you can help
Thankxs
:?

Some books show the bps as well as the strum pattern, most don't. It can be tough trying to find the rythmn for a piece you have never heard. Your best bet is to see if you can find the tune with guitarpro or powertab so that you can hear the rythmn. The time signature gives you the basic rythmn. 4/4 or 3/4 for instance, but won't help you with the feel of the song. If your not concerned with accuracy, you can always make up your own strum pattern with what sounds good to you. You can slow down or speed up the time also to put your own feel on tune. Hope that helps

Hi Incy.

The best advice I can give is to listen to the tune on a CD and simply imitate what you hear. Strumming is not very mysterious ... you're either strumming down (toward the floor) or up, combining the two in a musical fashion. Experiment! You'll find once you do get a bit of a pattern and tempo that works, it's hard NOT to keep it going smoothly.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
