  ...How Sweet the sound...

I tried sending this tab into mxtabs... and they rejected it :?? I, personally think it is a beautiful sounding song(My grandmother cried when i played it for her.)... its a slide guitar version of the Hymn "Amazing Grace." I don't know if I'm allowed to do this but, its a short tab so, I am going to post it on here, hope somebody enjoys it as much as I did(obveously mxtabs didn't).

P.S. If anyone has any suggestions or questions please let me know.

Amazing Grace:

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
e---1---5/1--5----1-------------------
b-1------------8----3-1--------------
g-------------------------------------

That saved a wretch, like me
e---1--5/1-5---8----------------------
b-1----------8------------------------
g-------------------------------------

I once was lost, but now am found
e-5-5-/-8-/-5-/-8-/-5-----------------
b---------------------6-8-6-3-1-------
g-------------------------------------

Was blind, but now I see
e---1---5/1--5------------------------
b-1------------8-6--------------------
g-------------------------------------

P.P.S. Kirk, Perhaps your expertise in the manner of slide guitar can bring more life to this song... oh, and planeTalk is worth it, to anyone who was still wondering.

take a look at Kirks version of it in the free lessons for ideas. It is awkward playing slide at the first fret, particularly the high strings. Try moving the whole thing up an octive or changing the key. Look at the chords for note choices over more strings instead of just the first 2 strings. Add bass notes also for interest. Once you have that down play with , forgive the pun, grace notes to add interest. If you have the P.T. book, this should not be too hard to do..You could also google for the tune. It is a very much played tune so you should be able to find countless examples of it in many styles and tuninigs. I heard it played on bagpipes once. cool. Hope that helps.

Goodonya WhipperWill187, as they say back in Australia ... nice melody line. Yes, it's a beautiful tune. I do agree with allthumbs though, F is a nasty key for slide as you wind up clunking around down near the nut. G works well. But thanks heaps for posting it.

Dumb is not asking about something new to you. A slide is a tube made of metal, glass or ceramics. It is worn on the pinky, sometimes the 3rd finger and less often the index finger. Your fretting hand lays it across the strings of the neck where it is slid to notes you wish to play up and down the neck. Very popular in blues and country though players like Kirk have the skills to break out of those styles. Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood,Bonnie Raitt plays mostly slide on her tunes. Rocky Mountain High is a classic of slide. If you google for slide giutar you will probably find a huge amount of sites. It is a very popular style of playing. Go to Kirks' soundclick page to hear some of his slide playing. Kirk is just finishing his How to slide DVD if you interested in this style.
Go to the bottom of this page for a taste of Kirk's slide playing.

You only need one if you want to play slide style. There used to be some slide lessons on this site at one time, I am not sure if they were all retired to Kirks' Kirk a Lorange CD. I had a custom 1 of made of leaded glass for 55 bucks Canadian. I also have Kirks' heavy brass slide which I believe is somewhere in the 30 dollar range, you would have to check his order page. Dropped D slides are hard to find, they are shorter than regular slides that cover 6 strings. Dropped D slides only have to cover 4 stings. Regular full sized slides are found in any guitar store, dropped D,not so much.
