Hmmmm ... could be that the slot in the nut that it fits into is too wide and it's allowing some sideways vibration; try de-tuning, then jamming a bit of paper in the slot, then tuning up to pitch. If it's gone, then try something more permanent, or take it to be done by a pro.
Or maybe the portion of string beyond the nut, the bit between the nut and the tuning peg, is picking up some vibration from the open string ... it could even be another string in that area picking up some sympathetic vibration; try damping each string with your finger to see if that stops it. If so, you can always use something up there to damp off the offending string, but again, better to take it to a repair man. Little jobs like that never cost a lot.
Or it could be something else ... try damping off everything and anything with your fingers to see if you can pinpoint the problem.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
Buy it now for only $10 |
