sore fingers help

I have found something that might be of help to all of us new players in regards to those very sore fingers. I have read that putting rubbing alcohol on those fingers helps toughen them up and helps dry out the skin in order to develop callouses. That tip comes from Eric Clapton.
I am finding that it helps me, so I wanted to pass it on to you. It also feels super when you have to stop playing because those tender fingers just can't take it anymore!
I was off work yersterday and wanted to get in lots of practice time, but then again, the sore fingers issue threatened to stand in my way.
After about a half an hour of practicing my chords, I had this idea: moleskin. I used to do a lot of hiking in my younger (okay-much younger!) days and when I noticed a sore spot developing on a foot- I put a patch of moleskin on it so that I didn't get a blister. So I put a tiny patch of moleskin on each finger tip and I could practice for hours.
Mind you, one needs to develop those callouses, so you can't become hooked on the moleskin solution.
Good luck everybody.
Bless you, Kirk

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
