Electronic Tuners
I have a Korg Chromatic Electronic tuner, and both times ive posted a recording, people have commented that i sound out of tune... Yet i checked the tuning precisely (by the tuner)
The tuners setup at 440hz standard tuning etc...
I had no background noise, neck pickup full volume, flat tones on the guitar, etc...
I guess my question is, is it possible i have got a dud tuner?

If your tuning by harmonics you are just barely touching the string directly over the fret wire.

Why would you want to tune by harmonics Tommy? Do yourself a favour and just buy a tuner.

You still need to have a tuner so you have one tuned string to start with to do harmonic tuning. I always tune with a tuner before I start playing and then as the evening goes on, just check with harmonics to make sure I am still in tune. Check that your battery isn't going dead in your tuner.

Use the online tuner in the first time guitar players thread at the top of the front page.

Don't rely on an electronic tuner to give you perfect tuning, rather, use it to get you
in the ball park... Learn to trust your ears...
The best way to train your ears is by doing what allthumbs suggested... Use the tuner
provided here. Listen to the tone generated for each string, and try to match it on
your guitar...!!!
If it sounds good when you play the strings open, but sounds off when you play a chord,
your intonation needs to be set... Do a search for "intonation" in the forum, there is
lots of info here on how to easily do it yourself...!!
Cheers
Ben

thanks guys....
i found UGB's intonation post, ill make sure im confident to do it myself, if not ill take it down and get the shop to fix it up for me completely, considering im pretty certain it wasnt set up out of the shop, it wouldnt hurt to have the whole thing given the once over
Thanks again

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
