Need help with Bad Moon Rising...

The CCR tune, don't know if there's another one. This is supposed to be a simple beginner song, but there is something about this song that I just don't get and it seems essential to getting it to sound right.

The chord change right at the beginning goes D, A, G, then back to D.

D - Bump, Buhhhh, Budump,
A - Uhbump,
G - Uhbump,
D - Bump, buhhhh, Buhduhba, Dumba, Dumba

Ok, the part I don't get is the last D chord. When I listen to the song it seems like the chord changes in some way in the last two Dumbas. I don't know what it is but just strumming the D there seems flat and lifeless. Can someone help me out on this one?

I think the common terminology is 'boom-chuck' whereby the boom = the single string root note of the chord, for instance the open D string on a D chord, the open A string on an A chord, the 6th string, 3rd fret on a G chord, etc. The chuck is all the other strings except the boom that make up the chord. So w/that I'm thinking it should be:

D - boom chuck, rest, ^chuck,chuck
A - boom chuck
G - boom chuck
D - boom chuck, D and rock your pinky up and down on the 1st string 3rd fret. I don't know what that chord is called.

that's how I play it.

That's how I play it too. Adding the pinky makes it a Dsus4.

I call it a 'D add pinky' or a Dinky for short.

Check out my tab on http://bobwolford.com/ I play it in C but that boom chick sound is going between (In your case) D and D6.

I you don't have TablEdit on your computer you can download a free viewer at, http://www.tabledit.com/download/downlo_e.shtml and download the "TEFview". You will see this "boom-chick in measures 7 and 8.

I agree with the D D6 chord structure. Any transcription I've seen does it that way. That is the way I have been playing it. .

OK, when S16 said adding the pinky makes it a Dsus4 I thought he had it right. Adding the pinky drops the 3rd and adds the 4th. So now I confused as to why it's a D6.

Welp, I'm home now and giving this a try. The D6 didn't seem to cut it at all. So far it seems the that least measure of that bit goes. D, Dsus4, Dsus2, D.

Hmm, ok loaded up Guitar Pro and found some tabs for BMR. I'll have to say that I now agree with the D6 recommendation. It took looking through several GP tabs till I found one that played it this way and had the correct rhythm.
