I used to play a few years back. I picked it up a lot easier than I did guitar but also found it to be not as satisfying, you just can't play tunes on drums.

I like to think I'd be a good drummer, but in reality it'd probably sound like someone throwing their kit down a set of stairs.

I dabble I used to have a set at my house and my brother played, so i picked up some stuff, to me you can really play anything if you can keep all the parts of the drums doing what you want at the same time. I found it to be very, very fun to play.

I had the same problem for a long time, you just have to figure out what the time (such as 4/4) is then figure out what plays on one count. Such as a standard straight beat is...

4 counts
Count 1: high-hat and bass drum
Count 2: high-hat
Count 3: high-hat and snare
Count 4: high-hat
Repeat and so on

Good Luck!

I have a capabilty of playing a simple rhythm, but when it comes to rolls and jazz style, like

| |~| | |~|

with the ride while doing something completely different on the snare, I just give up
