music program for pc
i know this is probably the wrong thread to be posting this but i wasn't sure where else.
does anyone know of a program for pc that lets you layer your music? i mean like, record different parts, lead, solo, bass (maybe), and put them all together? i suppose there must be loads but i can't think how to find the right one. i have visions of an adaptor so you can plug your guitar to your pc (tho thats probably silly, and i could just record the sound i guess), and put a drum beat to it. if i had something like this i swear i would never be bored again. so does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Buddy
Sorry if I'm wrong, but If you're asking about Multi-Track Recording - I've recently found KRISTAL which is also Free !!! It is nice, but I'm not sure , I'm just learning to record well. It has ASIO support too !!!
I hope this helped
Kindest Regards and Lots of Care

Try using Audigy, it is a free multi track recording program and it is fairly easy to use. You can even import backtrax and listen to them while recording yourself... on the next track. i think Audigy is probably the most used freeware program out there. I might be wrong though...

hey nice one kush! this looks ace. i was thinking i'd have to spend hundreds for something like this (i may still invest in a really advanced one further down the line, but this looks a wicked starter). so how do you use it? i mean, YOU specifically - do you use a mic to record everything or is there a way of plugging your guitar directly in? in the help section i read this - "If you want to record from a multi-channel ASIO sound card". does this mean its a case of getting a sound card with the right input for a guitar lead? sorry, i'm not so technical! thaks again mate

Hi Pal !!!
I'm so glad that you like it
I play Acoustic Guitar and I've been learning to finger-pick for the past 5 months. As I learn and play complete fingerstyle arrangments, I dont and cant really have backing tracks or drums tracks etc. As its a solo style of playing (if I'm not wrong)
I use a Mic (Shure SM 57) that goes into my Pre-Amp (a bad one ) and then plug it into the Line-in of my SoundCard. I'm really sorry to say this, but I aint technical too I live in a small town in India, and I dont even have anyone to guide me in my Playing. I'm just learning and I have this wonderful Family (Forum) for all my doubts and to encourage me.
Anyways thanks for caring, Pal !!! Waiting to hear something from you soon
Kindest Regards and Lots of Care

oh right u play finger style. i bought an acoustic a few weeks ago to try and learn that, but progress is really slow atm. electric is fun cos i can do it . so what's a pre-amp? i've never heard of that before. presumably it uses the same leads? cos with the electric style, obviously i'm just looking to plug in direct from my amp with no need for a mic. cheers for all ur help mate, i love this site !

sorry, let me rephrase that . obviously it's possible to plug directly into pc, from reading the help files. but if ur pre-amp uses different style leads will i need an adaptor?

hey, sorry to bother you again mate im having a few problems getting started with it. i went out and bought the adaptor, and its working fine as far as i can tell. im just a bit fazed by the program. from the mixer, i open audio input 1 which takes me to the waver. but where do i go from there? clicking record on the left and strumming does make the bar go up and down, but nothing much else seems to happen

I'm not sure (forgive me if I'm wrong) but I think WernHalen may be referring to Audacity - which is the freeware recorder I use, and so do a lot of other people here. It's not perfect, but it's pretty darn good for free!
Just do a google search on "Audacity" and you'll find it.

I use Power Tracks 10 by pgmusic. For $50 it is a steal- MIDI support, ASIO, DXi, and the clincher for me- REAL TIME EFFECTS. I started out with Audacity (it's great to start out with), but what drove me nuts was having to apply the effect, wait for the processing, playing it and seeing how it sounded, then having to go back and do it all over again until it was what I wanted. It's so much easier to be able to apply multiple effects in real-time and adjust while the song is playing. It was the worth the little bit of money they ask- plus they have a really good support forum as well. Later!

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
