Beginner: Pain in left wrist
I just started learning how to play about 2 weeks ago.
Occasionally, I get a dull pain in my wrist when playing. I try to use the classical position, but, naturally, I really haven't adapted to it yet.
I was wondering if this is normal or whether its something that needs correction.

G'day Slothrop
Welcome along! Try and relax your wrist when you go to play the guitar. Most who try to play in a tense manner often end up with a sore wrist and also find that they cannot last out too long.
So stay loose!

Take lots of breaks. Shake your wrist and hands out and do some stretches. It is normal for your wrist to feel a bit sore when your just starting. Too much tension and your using your muscles in a new way so it takes time to adapt.

Hi Slothrop
Guitar playing is just like going to a Gym for Building Muscle ! As you practice (wisely) you wrist and the finger-joints develope strenght and more control, independence etc. Dont worry, little pain is no trouble, but as allthumbs and the others have suggested, just take things litely and give a lot of rest to the muscles so that they can grow stronger !

No one can master every aspect of guitar playing, they just get better everyday.

Thanks for the tips. My wrist still hurts after some time playing, but I'm getting better and my speed in the classical position is improving.
Edit: To be honest, I broke my arm a few years back, and I'm not sure whether I really developed muscle mass back to what it was before the break. I'm finding that my left arm's dexterity is improving in general since I started.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
