learning to play

I was looking on the internet to try to figure out what chords or anything else to learn when a person is just starting out to play a guitar. Someone suggested that when a person is just starting out to learn to playing a guitar is to learn a,b,c,d,e,f,g, and a7,b7,c7,d7 e7,f7,g7 and Am, bm, dm, Em, F#m. what is your suggestion to learn when a person is just starting out to learn the guitar?

If you leave out any B or F chords then that is a good list Tommy. It should keep you busy for a while.

You might find the CAGED system a good thing to learn.

I like a lot of rock music, so I learned the basic power chord positions first then started learning the normal chord positions. Honestly, I wish I would have worked on the more traditional major and minor chords (more specifically D, G, A and C) but at least I could have some fun after learning the easy power chords. I'm starting to go back and learn them now along with bar chords and holy crap do those hurt.

  learning the scales

I was wondering is it a good idea for you to learn as many scales as you can for your fingers will become more limb and strengthen up?

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
