Bending?

I was reading up on some tabs and I came across bending. I've read a bunch of articles, but maybe I just haven't been getting enough sleep, but I don't get it. Are you supposed to pull it away from the neck instead of pushing down as usual?

lets see if i can explain this...when you bend, you fret the note and and then kind of push it up or pull it down the fretboard (up being toward your face and down toward your legs) while it's still fretted. this changes the pitch by however much you wish (1/2 step, 1 step, 1 1/2 step, etc...). does this help?

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel...
...is just a freight train comin' your way

There isn't a lot to it Jx. Pluck the string and then either push the string up (normally you you would bend the thin strings up) or pull the string down (normally you you would bend the thick strings down). The most difficult thing about bends is to keep them in tune but that takes timeto develop. Concentrate on the technique first of all.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
