I'm not quite sure what you mean by the above.

I'll offer the same advice I do to any question about "strum patterns" - don't get too hung up on it. If 10 different guitarists were to play that song, we'd all play/strum/sing it differently. The more accomplished guitarists would be able to add some fancy flourishes to it, where a beginner may strum it as all straight downstrokes on the beats. IMO it's better to watch/listen to/learn the song and get an idea of how the song goes, then play it how it sounds best to you (and how you can play it according to your abilities).....don't worry about using the exact same strum patterns that somebody else used. As you play the song and get more comfortable with the chord changes and flow of the song, you can alter how you strum it and "fancy it up" some.

What strat said. The guy was tailoring his strumming to make the chord changes more interesting. He was varying his strumming through out the tune. It would be better for you to start with a simple strumming pattern and then build it up.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
