A few questions here...
Hey ladies and germs, ive got a few questions/issues that have been running around in my head about guitars and i was just waiting till i have collected enough of em to make a decent post. So here it goes.
1.) My room gets rather cold here in these winter type conditions in my house and if I leave my electric out- it goes out of tune. It tends to go sharp on all of the strings. Now I am a trumpet player so i kinda know whats going on- temperature and weather conditions do effect the tune of an instrument. But my problem has been getting on my nerves.. I like to keep my guitar out so when ever i just want to pick it up and jam, i can just flip the switch on my freakin awesome amp and go at it. Does my instrument need new strings? Does it need to be kept in the case? moved to a warmer part of the house?
2.) Can a multi effects processor produce the same quality as a stand alone pedal? Ive been pondering buying a Behringer V-AMP 2 Amp Modeler. Is the V-Amp the same thing as a multi effects processor? or is it an amp modeler alone? Anyone have one? provide opinions? My amp does have effects and amp options.. but it feels like it is not enough sometimes ( VOX Valvetronix AD50VT 50w modeling amp). I am looking to get more variety in my play- i feel like a gear head. Sometimes i like to rock out, play metal, or just twang around.. Another thing i like to do is if im covering a song I like to sound as close as possible to the music or sometimes i just give up lol.
Those are my two big concerns atm.. lots of little questions in between.. practice is going along fine and i feel like i learn new stuff all the time.
Thanks!
Aubrey

A,
Metal contracts when it get cold. Doesn't matter if the strings are old or new, cold strings will be sharp and will flatten as the guitar warms up. Keep the guitar in a temperate climate at all times. You also run the risk of checking (cracking) the finish if you expose a cold instrument into a warmer room suddenly.
Regards,
Monk

The string thing you are just going to have to live with unless you move your stuff to a warmer room. Cold metal contracts.
Cheap modelers and cheap pedals, not much different. Expensive pedals and very expensive fx boards, the pedals have the edge since the fx boards are trying to emulate the pedals. Consider top end pedals can go as high as 400 bucks and average around 150 to 200. So 5,6 pedals or more or one or two rack mounted fx.
Top of the line Vettas are a good bet for amp and fx.
You can't match the rigs recording artists have unless you have deep pockets so a lot of the time you won't be able to match the tone you hear.

When the weathers cold my guitar the same thing.
Be who you are and say what you feel...Because those that matter don't mind...And those that mind don't matter. Is the business your minding today your own? What's right is right...what's wrong is wrong.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
