I need all of the info you have!

Hi, I started playing a few days ago, I am very... very bad!

Can anyone tell me everything I need to know to begin?

I know about tabs and all that...

I want to start with a riff, if anyone can tell me a good place that gives step-by-step instruction with pics/vids and audio that would be awesome.

And I know you would probably here this alot, but what is the easiest song to play?

I think there are a million ways (if not more) to start playing the guitar. But here is how I started:

My first song that I learned was "house of the rising sun". It has some simple chords in it and bassicly this is useful to help you grab the chords in the right way and change to one and other.

I started with one chord: A minor and tried to hold it in a way the strings would all sound ok and none of them resonate.

For the right hand I was taught an easy picking pattern which I repeated on all the chords of the song. (You can strum as well if you like) The picking goes like:

------0-------
----1---1-----
--2--------2--
--------------
0-------------
--------------

And the chords are: Am - C - D - F (really tricky to learn) Am - C - E7
second part (almost the same) Am - C - D - F - Am - E7 - AM - E7

In the beginning it would take me a lot of seconds to change or hold a chord and it wasn't fluent at all. But after some time it gets better and better... The cramps will go away and you will grab your chords better over time... That's all that it takes: time and a lot of patience.

Of course this is just one approach...

edit:

Make sure to use you tumb to hit the three basses and use you're I on the G-string, M on the B-string and R on the E-string... also make sure you hit the right bases... Example: an E bass in a D chord is not going to sound really great

easiest song to play...

Well, theres plenty of easy songs.

I think you would be the best judge of what is within your ability.

How long have you been playing?

What music do you listen to?

I'd advise you to try to learn songs you like to listen to. These will be the most fun to play for you.

G'day Plutonic.

There's tons of good information in here and on the net in general. There's also tons of rubbish out there.

GFB&B is IMHO the best guitar community on the planet - supportive and friendly, excellent guidance given willingly by very experienced musos. Instruction-wise plenty to find here with the search engine. (/END waxing lyrical ).

Good luck, and welcome!
