getting ready to play standing
The worst part of standing up to play is well for me, is fumbling for several minutes trying to put my guitar on. Well how is this a problem? I have long hair, trying to pull it all through. If you know what I mean. Sometimes I miss afew strands which get pulled on when taking off the guitar or just shifting position. That = alot of pinching = OUCH! If any of you have ever had long hair, how did you manage to do it? How does one of my many idols herman li (picture attached) do it? I've never seen how he does it before.

Can't say it's a problem I've ever had! The hair getting caught part I mean.
But I did struggle playing in front of a crowd on Canada Day when we played some tunes. I am so used to sitting down and staring at the fret board. When I stood up and tried to play to be more dynamic and entertaining, I was messing up the songs! So, now I'm going to work on playing tunes and standing too.

I`ve not as much hair as I used to have but here goes:
Put the guitar on.
Put your right hand on your neck under your right ear.
Slide it round to your left ear keeping it flat against the skin - so that all the hair rests on the back of the hand.
Taking weight of the guitar in the left hand. lift it slightly while lifting hair out from under the strap with the right hand.
Fluff hair up in a shampoo advert sort of style
You could try tying it up - a ponytail is much easier to deal with and you can always let it out when the guitar is on.

I used to be able to do that. But now my hair is alot longer so that trick doesn't work.

I don't have a problem with my hair getting caught in the strap, I just keep it in a box under the bed.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
