fret board ?

he geys i just started a few days ago and loving the site. However im learning the cord progression on this site but do not know where that thick black line is on the neck. Thus far i have been taking it were the strings leave the fretboard, hence im starting at the very end of the neck. However after turning afew pages i see that its using the dots on the neck. now im confused !

I am not sure what your asking. Could you explain it further? What is the "it" using the dots?

that line is the nut of the guitar, or the '0' fret

the dots are where you put your fingers

You are right. The black heavy black line is the nut before the first fret on the neck. Later as you learn chords further up the neck, you will see a number beside the fret closest to the nut. It represents the fret your starting from. ie, a 5 would mean that the 5th fret was the base fret at the top of the diagram.
I looked at the pages you were talking about. I think your talking about bar chords. You use your index finger to make an artificial nut further up the neck. The dots for the fingers or chords stays the same. ie, an E chord played down at the nut is the same shape as a barred G chord at the 3rd fret. It just goes up 3 tones from E to G. Hope that helps.

barre chords are essentially power chords with an added third on to it, which makes the chord major or minor

every guitarist must learn how to play barre chords some time or another, so you might as well start to learn now
