I noticed

I noticed when I practice playing as I am sitting on my ottoman that I put the guitar notch on my left leg and not my right like most right handed players , but having it on my right leg feels so awkward and my left arm feels like I am cramped getting lower on the neck . But having it on my left leg does tend make Bar Chords more of a challenge , making my elbow cock under the neck a bit .

So should I try and change to the right leg or stay with whats comfortable to me ? Change isnt that big of a deal as I had to switch to shooting Sporting Clays left handed as I am left eye dominate . That was no big deal , so if making the switch would be the right thing to do I could make the change , but being comfortable make things easier .

I'm no expert but I've seen it either way and I'd say it's what works for you!

Stick to what suits, being comfortable is the most important thing if you try and change and it causes discomfort it will affect your playing. You can always try changing now and again but you don't want to force a change that doesn't suit you.

Cheers

Chris

SprayTech - I play with the guitar on my left leg also - it just feels more comfortable to me. Playing on my right leg pulls my left arm too close into my side - not only is it more difficult to play, but I also end up getting cramps and fatigue in my left shoulder. Also, playing on the left leg (at least for me) more closely resembles the position the guitar naturally hangs on its strap when I play standing up, so it makes that transition a little easier too.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
