Logbook
Hey guys,
Does anyone use a logbook to keep track of their progress and lessons?
I am looking for something where I can record each of my lessons, progess, short and long-term goals.
Does anyone use anything like this? If so, any recommendations?
Thanks!
Jason

Jayx733,
I wish I could help, my "lessons" are scattered all over the floor of my playing room (bedroom, no pun intended). I would be interested in hearing if anyone uses a system also.

I used a daily log book for the first 8 months, but the more I progressed, the less I made entries. I believe the last entry I made was 3 months ago. I will admit, it is enlightening to look back over the entries I did make and the progress I made. I also used it to motivate myself and to inspire myself. Come to think of it, I think I will pull it out tonight and look through it, and possibly make an entry. I'd say go for it...it is usefull on many levels.

Glad I could help! Ha!
I found this while looking around: http://www.tomhess.net/shop.php?id=7
Has anyone used this by chance?
It seems like it's right on the nose for what I was looking for. Unfortunately, there are no screenshots of the content.

Nahh, I'd have lost it. There as no point in me keeping a log book past the point of learning the chords.
I do keep a "songbook" with lots of lyrics and chords all over the sheets. Notes here and there about problems and alternatives... But that just started recently in 20+ years of playing guitar.
Remember, wherever you go... there you are.

Too many notebooks to count..binders full of music and comp books full of notes etc. but no set way of recording my progress. Just my ears!

If you're looking for a pc program to log your progress, have a look at "lonewolf.gr/software/default.asp"
Scroll down to "Quick notes" and then download from there.
I've used this freeware program sometime now for various applications.
Hope this helps.

Somewhere in one of the posts on this site someone said that they record themselves and that it's very encouraging and enlightning when you go back later and listen because sometime when you think you're not progressing it can be a real eyeopener. I've recorded a couple of times and plan to do more as I master new things!!! Good luck

Recording yourself is great advice - much more useful than a logbook, IMO. Even if you just use something as basic as a tape recorder, you can listen to yourself over time and hear the improvement. Like Aunt Doty said, when you feel like you're not progressing it's great to be able to go back and listen to yourself - you can tell right away whether you've progressed or not.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
Buy it now for only $10 |
