Question about holding the pick?

I find myself holding the pick between my thumb and middle finger. Most things I have read seem to say to hold it between thumb and index finger. It feels more comfortable for me this way. I was wondering if down the road this may cause me problems? And if anybody else holds it with middle finger? Brian

I sure do have a lot to learn!!!!!

EVH holds a pick that way. The advantage is it leaves the index finger free for tapping. The disadvantage is that it is not as stable a grip on the pick. What is comfortable and works for you is right.

I rarely use a flat pick anymore. A thumb pick leaves all my fingers open and I don't worry about dropping it. Just have to keep your nails a bit long.

That's the way I hold it too ... I didn't know for decades it was incorrect. Trying to change it was pointless. Now I tuck it up between my fingers ... play with the flat pick ... play with my fingernails ... play with the tips of my fingers. It all feels really natural ... but I have to look at it to describe it to my son. Kinda of weird ... huh? But I think it almost has to get that way ... so that you're not thinking about it.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
