Can I tape up the hole in the...
body of my guitar, and stop the dang picks from falling into it?
Is there an effective fast way of removing aforementioned picks once they do fall into the dang hole? Other than utilizing as many languages as one knows, in fast effect...of course, for the GP audience, that would be whimpers of, "Oh, please, get out of there you stupid...pick!"

I had a friend who was always dropping them in and taped a tissue over the hole{lol} not the thing to do with an elect/accoustic combo, all that tissue dust what a nightmare cleaning that up.
as to retrieving them I think you got the right answer already

Zowie, Jonesy, that is one nice Lutehole, and I never even knew they existed! It's got a strong Gothic feel, doesn't it? I want a lutehole for my birthday...!!!
I also wouldn't mind that strap, but it's carved out of 'bridal' leather...nice that they've been able to recycle former wives that way, huh?
K, I'm just bein' bad, fingers are sore, and it even hurts to type!

Removing picks comes with experience. I don't drop them in much anymore but now when I do I can get em out quickly. Basically you turn it upside down: guitar parallel to the ground, proceed with quick downward snaps of the wirst over and over and listen to where the pick is releative to the hole in the guitar and tilt the guitar a little bit while still doing the snaps.... sorry that's the only way I can think of explaining it as it's kind of a feel thing, like asking someone how to throw Barry Zito's curve, etc.

Go out and buy 20 picks , as you lose one into the body of the guitar just grab another one, when all twenty are gone turn guitar over shake it around and I guarantee at least some while come out.

Ah. The old sound hole triangle. Keep a small compass near your guitar. When the compass needle starts gyrating wildly put your pick down and back away from the guitar. Check your clocks to see if you have lost any time.
Always look into the sound hole before purchasing a guitar to make sure there isn't a tiny pyramid with a glowing gem stone at the bottom of the sound hole.
Or you could make sure that you expose less surface area of the pick to the strings. You can also drill a hole through the pick to give you a better grip. Most pick loss is because of digging into the strings too much. That will pass with time as you develop more control. I am amazed that no one has made a pick holder that contours between thumb and finger that would make this a non issue.

I only play electric so no probs here. If it continues to be a problem, I'd say get a heavy metal SHRED MACHINE!

Gotta be v-e-r-y careful when you do that. Make sure the pick is in some sort of form or clamp it down onto something you don't mind putting holes into. I wouldn't suggest doing over the dining or coffee table.

Okay.. best way I've read to get picks out of acoustics is as follows.
1. With guitar sound hole up, locate pick and shake until pick is directly under the sound hole.
2. With a eraser end of a pencil pin the pick to the back wall of the guitar.
3. While continuing to hold the pencil that has trapped the pick against the back wall turn the guitar over so the sound hole faces down.
4. Release the pressure on the pencil. The pick should fall straight down and out of the guitar.
5. Wah Lah
It's a lot easier to do than to explain.

Removing picks does get easier with practice as a poster further up has said. You can use a pencil with a blob of "BluTac" on it to pick them up if they`re proving a bit reluctant.

Get a whole bunch of picks, drop them in as much as you like. When you run out of picks it is time to change strings anyway, it's very easy to get picks out when the strings are off. I change coated strings about every 6 weeks and uncoated every other weekend if playing on my main acoustic, Strings make a huge difference on an acoustic, my electric I play until one breaks and then change them all, maybe every 6 months.
I don't drop picks much anymore but I sure did for a while, my teacher told me to just wait and get them out while changing strings, really good advice. I never did the wiggle the guitar over your head thing...

Well, you had me, allthumbs, right up until the part about the pyramid....any self-respecting alien intriguist would know it's not a pyramid, it's a bloomin' tetrahedron...
Sounds like a hole in the market, and guess who's in the marketing bizness? MEEEEEEE whyn't you draw up a diagram of that guitar pick with contours?
OK, no more herbal teas for me...

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
