speedy riffs

Learning a tune, or most of it suddenly seems quite straight forward compared to the parts of that same tune that consist of a riff that is normally played at the speed of light and multiplied by infinity, and of course not just to juggle that about it has to fit in its given slot in the tune.
I've run over such a riff on a tune i'm trying to master at the moment to get my brain and fingers into the idea that this guitar playing is not just all about chugging along at a nice easy flow and I do have to discover the secret to guitar that is, some magic switch that applies an imaginary million volts through the brain and on to the fingers for warp factor 9 playing.
I'm doing it, but it's taking a long time to get it to sink in and the speed is still holding back.
Just thought I'd share that with you.
Any others on the same stage of this magical journey.

Jon,
When you discover that warp speed secret let me know, I still struggle with Twinkle, Twinkle.

  Simple...

Its simple, 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration. Practice, practice, listen... practice.

Most of that stuff is over rated anyway... and playing a facsimile will usually do just fine. Lots of those "Blazing" riffs I do with "Pick-hand taps" or rolling licks across two strings. Its some skill used with much sleight of hand.

Remember, wherever you go... there you are.

Probably quite a few of us! You have to learn the lick first before you can play it at speed. Start off slow and "burn" it into your brain and muscle memory - once you start getting comfortable with it, start picking the speed up.

Mac

"I wish I could play that fast - then I would have the option of not doing that."
