See if you can find Jimmy Page on Youtube playing his axe with a bow. I can't remember which Led Zep. tune it was.

I'd like a violin as well. I've never played one before, but I like the sound of them. Are you an experianced player? Would you know what to look for in a violin? Can I get a good sounding but cheap violin?

Music is everybody's possession. It's only publishers who think that people own it.

For a violin type effect, you could try an e-bow - here`s one in action:

One thing you need to be aware of is that a violin bow uses rosin to create more friction to vibrate the string. The rosin will get on to your strings and ruin them, so only do it with strings you are planning on changing anyways. I learned that one from experience the day after my daughter got her violin.

It is quite different to play with one ( apart from the fretting ) which may have put people off - you really have to completely change what the right hand does, using it to control dynamics as well string choice. It`s a unique sound though.
