Can anyone help me with these chords?
I find it hard to play ANY sort of B chord, and F#m are there any chords that sound like these? Because there is a song that uses both these chords, and I can play the song until I hit these chords then I'm screwed! Can anyone help at all??
Just in case anyone was wondering what song it is...It's Room on the third floor by McFly!
Thanks
LTP

You can't really substitute other chords for important chords like those and expect to do justice to the song. What you can do is transpose the whole song to an easier key. For example if you move every chord down by exactly two semitones B will become A and F#m will become E m. But not knowing what other chords are involved, you could find chords that were easy now becoming more difficult. If you list all the chords used, I can maybe find you an easier key to play it in.
Also Kirk and I both have lessons on how to change key (transposition) in the lessons forums, if you want to try it yourself.

F#m
Index finger 1 string - 5 fret and 2 string - 5 fret. Baby finger 2 string - 7 fret. second finger 3 string - 6 fret. third finger 4 string - 7 fret.
B Chord.
Hold the F#m chord and slide the whole shape up to the 7 fret so the index finger is still covering the 1 and 2 strings. Lift the pinky. You are now playing A B chord. All you are doing is sliding the chord up and lifting the pinky to change chords. Fast and easy. See if that works for you.

There's no F#m in the song. There's an F#7 which he wrongly calls F# major 7.
An easy F#7 is XX4320.
Transposing it down 2 semitones won't help as Am would have to be played as G minor - so you'd be no better off.
Play the easy F#7 and try an easier B shape such as mentioned above.

that helps a lot thanks, now I laugh at Tom because the chord name was wrong!
are the E and the A chords barre or am I being thick?? (no I am not blonde before anyone asks... I just get annoying asking lots of questions!)
