Classical Guitar "guitar strap" questions

Greetings,

I am in the market for something to use with a newly aquired nylon stringed guitar so that I can stand up and play it. I did a search of this forum and found answers to most of my questions, but I have a few more. When I refer to a guitar strap below, I'm referring the kind that goes around the neck, behind tha back the guitar, and then hooks into the soundhole. There are no strap nuts on this guitar.

1) I saw that a few people here use them and their reviews were favorable. What wasn't touched upon was how comforatable they were to wear for any period of time. Does it tend to hurt your neck after wahile? Any bad cramps? Does it give you a rash, better to wear a collared shirt and tuck it under the collar?

2) There was a mention in one thread that the plastic clip might damage the soundhole of the guitar. Has anyone had any damage done to their guitar due to this clip? How about rub marks from the strap?

3) Kind of nitty gritty: I saw on ebay that there are some straps with a plastic clip and some with a metal clip. I'm referring to the part that attaches to the sound hole. Is one better/worse than the other?

4) Are there any alternatives to this kind of neckstrap? I do not want to drill any holes in this guitar.

If it matters, it hurts to play sitting down, and I prefer to play standing up. This new guitar is my "inside" guitar that I picked up since it is too cold to play my steel string outside. I really don't like sitting down when I play, thus the reasons for the questions.

Thanks!

Rob

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
