Need advice on power cord fingering.

I started working on some two fingered power cords, where there are a one fret space between the index finger and ring finger. This is the "standard" fingering. Even though its not much of a stretch, I find it much more comfortable using my pinky instead of my ring finger. My question is, am I starting a bad habit with the pinkie? I'm wondering if down the road, I might need that pinky for something else? Even if its not a bad habit, should I go with the ring finger just for the stretching aspect?

Stick with the index and ring fingers- you'll need the pinky to do the stretches for a blues shuffle- that's where you'll take the power chord and you'll have a stretch of 4 frets instead of 2.

Chris you took the words right out my mouth.
GeoNjules, try and stick to the way the fingering is, there is a reason for that. as you will find out as you progress. Check out Kirk's "Changing chord" lesson's.
I think if you stick to using your pinky because you find it "easier", you will throw your playing all over the place, thus making playing harder for yourself in the future. Good luck.

Now when I talk to God he said he'd understand, Stick by me I'll be your guiding hand. But don't ask me what I think of you. I might not give the answer you want me to.
