  First song I learnt

First song I learnt; Knockin' On Heavens Door.
Only four chords, and really good, cool song to add to your repertoire.

hello every one, I`m still struggling with barre chords, I was wondering if its because I'm using heavy gauge steel strings, I've been learning to play Romanov, which I've basically mastered except for those few barre chords stretcing across 4 frets and having to change my other 3 fingers into differnet positions across those 4 frets while barring the same fret , any advice please?.

You may wanna be careful with posting lyrics, and chords on here...
With all the fuss thats been floating around over tabs and such, they may get removed by the mod squad.

Yep, as Matty says, we try and avoid having lyrics here on the site. Feel free to link to the tab on another site if you want. You can also check out Kirk's lesson on 'Heavens Door' here.

Barre chords are tough indeed, you might still not get them clean even after a fair bit of practise. A lighter gauge of string would probably be easier to fret although you won't get the same tone. Probably worth a try, you can also move back up when you are more comfortable with them. Also have had the set-up checked?

You can get more advice on barre chords here - Playing Chords

I mean check things like the height of the strings from the fretboard, the bridge and the nut, the amount of relief in the neck. Having these adjusted can greatly increase the playability of your guitar.

Welcome bartified. I think I 've lost count how many times this question has been asked here on GFBAB. However "Knocking on heavens door" is usually the popular beginner song, but if you go into Kirk's lesson's, there is enough to keep you going.

Now when I talk to God he said he'd understand, Stick by me I'll be your guiding hand. But don't ask me what I think of you. I might not give the answer you want me to.

Also a very easy one is REM's "everybody hurts" And "Horse with no name" is no brainer. Guitar Noise has some good lessons - from memory "horse with no name" is one. Also easy is Buffets "Margarittaville" (see the guitar noise site for the lesson)
