Crossroads Tone

I am trying to nail down the tone for crossroads but I am not quite there something is missing. I should have all the ingredients but I am not that impressed with my results.

I have the following:

American strat, The nearest I get to the tone with pick up position is the center pup????? IS this ok?

Boss Blues Driver pedal, I am using this for the Overdrive with the tone knob down and the gain on over 3/4

Blues Junior amp, Master on 4 Volume on 9 (For a slight breakup) and FAT switch in

So what is missing? I played this ok at a Blues Jam last night but that was plugging into a POD2 so it not so much my fingers.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what gear Eric used on the Crossroads track exactly, but on this site it gives a fair idea on what Eric's rig set-up was when he was with Cream. http://guitargeek.com/rigview/427/

The following is an excerpt from The Eric Clapton FAQ site:

Q: How did Clapton get the famous "woman-tone" in Cream?
A: According to Clapton, the "woman-tone" is achieved by rolling the tone control all the way off on either the neck or the bridge pickup of a guitar with humbucking pickups and the volume all the way up. Heavy strings and a bassy-sounding amp at high volume also helps to achieve that wooing, whooshing tone. In fact, a lot of Clapton's "woman tone" was achieved this way [with a wah-wah pedal], with the pedal about three-quarters back from the forward position. (from Guitar Player magazine, Gear Guru, March 1993)

I know it doesn't exactly tell you the particular tone Eric got with "Crossroads", but I hope this helps.
