I've spent my share of cash on 'Quick Chord Finding Books' and 'How to Play Like Eric Clapton' (amongst many, many others) over the years. Always looking for a quick fix to my approach to the guitar. Essentially, wanting to be fluid in my approach...and learn how to improv with more ease.
I guess I've learned that there is no magic pill or quick fix. BUT...Kirk's
Planetalk Book (& video...it really lets you see the application of it) really do put you on a proper track towards seeing the fretboard, soloing, and understanding the basics of theory behind guitar. A very simple but extremely effective method.
It has done much for my playing in the past year. I took a couple steps back, but more so because I was dependent upon scale box patterns and not really knowing WHEN to use them or where. I think Kirk's approach lays a solid foundation and let's you grow according to your own willpower, practice time, and most importantly...at your own speed.
In short, thank you Kirk. Honestly and truely a great guitar learning tool everyone. And if you find that you have a dozen "guitar" books on your desk you never read, I think you very well might want to give Kirk's book and video a try. His method and little secrets are valuable tools for me as a semi-pro musician and teacher.
Many thanks...
