i am almost convinced yet wondering

ok i have read all about the planetalk program and have read the testimonies but none have really addressed my question, so here it is....

i usually play a 12 string acoustic guitar at church when leading congregational singing and keep it real simple with open chords and a rythm pattern so every one can enjoy it....basically i let the voices be the melody and the music, i'm just there to provide chords and timing changes....i am considering buying a 6 string martin acoustic to improve my skills on and hope to transfer that to the 12 string....i am the only instrumentalist at church, except for the alesis drum machine i use as well .

i really am not interested in learning to shred, play fast, solo like a mad man or play an electric guitar (however i do want a hollow body as i improve). i am a more acoustic oriented, mellow, slow hand bluesy, jimmy buffet type of musician... but i do want to be able to improve, blend one song into another thru the key change, etc...and maybe improvise now and then....my knowledge of the fret board is limited, i know the barre chords but hate them and don't use them like i guess i should...

i know all fretboards are the same but is planetalk for the electric guitar hero or does it address the acoustic nuances as well?

if yes where do i send my check?

Billy,
PT will give you the entire fret board as your playground and if you have looked at Kirk's lessons you will see that 90% are geared to the acoustic guitar. The majority of electric lessons are for slide.
If you are interested in following the COTM and playing melodic music all over the fretboard then PT would definately help.

Plane Talk doesn't deal with actual physical playing technique. Your expected to have a reasonable level of skills before you buy it. It simply decodes the fretboard in a simple manner that lends its self to strong melodic note choices. A side effect of this is getting a much deeper understanding all things musical pertaining to guitar. It would fit your needs perfectly.

As Knight said - take a look at Kirk's lessons and watch some of his playing in them. You'll notice that the vast majority of them are on acoustic guitar, and are much closer to your desired genre than that of a shredder or "electric guitar hero" (although Kirk can MORE than hold his own on an electric too!). PT is really genre-neutral - like AT said, it doesn't really address the physical aspects of playing, per se, or tie into any particular style.

Check out Kirk's Chord Tones lesson to give you an idea of what he does with it.

I'm like you, I'm, basicly a strummer and plan my major instrument to always be acoustic. I bought PlaneTalk and have had it for a little over a week. I definitely think that it will help you master the things you're interested in. I'm working with it and think it will be worth it, albeit I'm a slow learner and think it will take me a while to wrap my mind around all the information. I think you should give it a try!

Like my "WhiteBread" Jacksonville neighbor, I just ordered it too.....I need all the help I can get...! My new instructor wants me to learn the notes on the fretboard.....and while I understand how the notes are arranged.....I have to think pretty hard and long right now to locate them....maybe the Plane Talk will expedite this process.......I'll let ya'll know.....

It'll teach you a whole lot more than that, MR ... you may well end up giving your teacher lessons before long.

Thanks for ordering, I'll send that out as soon as Easter is over. ... Tuesday, I guess.
