  Know your audience

Last night I had my first gig playing to a group of friends who came around for end of year BBQ drinks.
I started with silent night, folks sang along but some of the noisy elements in the audience made it hard work. Went to stairway a little too early and started to lose the audience, so I quckly switched to some creedence and got them singing along again with bad moon rising, however the noisier elements were getting totally out of hand, so I asked for requests,
I didn't know the song they asked for although I had heard it mentioned before, Jumped on the net, did a tab search, found the chords and lyrics, went back outside and after a quick test strum, lanched in to it and I had them. The noisy element were now completely absorbed in the performance, singing along and when it finished they screamed for more! The song???

Toot Toot Chugga Chugga Big Red Car by the Wiggles!!!!

I think I have reached the pinnacle after just one performance, there is only one way to go from here. Anybody want to buy a cheap guitar?

Cheers

Peter

Learning to read your audience is a big part of a gig. Sounds like you adapted well.
