Metallica debate
I wanna hear all of your comments or whatever on the debate wether Metallica are the gods they are, or wether they are corporate sellouts.....This idea for a thread came to me after whatching a Pantera video where they do a cover of "no Remorse". in the video they say.."to us Metallica has no equals." so i don't get it, people say they don't like metallica but the love metallica but it's like one in the same Pantera's influences include metallica.....so i just wanna hear comments and remarks.

Don't much care either way. I like Metalica, but I am too old to get into bands as Gods or who is or is not the best.

Metallica has been around so long now- I've got Kill 'em All on cassette out in the car (came out in '82, I believe) that they now fall into that rare category of bands where you can say "I like their early stuff better than what they're doing now, etc.". Personally, I think they hit their peak with Justice and then stayed up there for a bit with "the Black Album". After that, it was mainly a matter of trying to spread into some different styles while keeping their signature "sound". I wouldn't call them corporate sellouts- their last few albums haven't sold all that well, from what I have seen/heard. Also, they wouldn't have fought the online music sales revolution so hard it they were sellouts. So, there's my 2 cents.

Metallica has its ups and downs, but I always think it should be up to the individual to decide who they like.

I'm far too old to be getting into who 'rules' and 'sucks' so I'll just say that the whole 'Napster Debate' has been beat into the ground so hard for so long that there is simply nothing left to talk about.

+1. Don't mind listening to them sometimes, but don't feel real strongly about them one way or the other.

I wouldnt say gods, but i couldnt name any i DO think are gods....
Ive been a metallica fan since i first heard them. That being said, i dont fall into either of the "old school" or "new school" categories.... I do like the old stuff (kill, ride, puppets), but i also like the newer stuff (black, load reload). i wasnt a big fan of St anger. it has its good points, but some of it just bugs me.... I am interested in hearing this new album thats sposed to coming out next year..
Ive got:
No life till leather
Kill em all
Ride the lightning
Garage days re-revisited
Justice
Puppets
Black
Live **** binge and purge
load
reload
S&M
Garage Inc
St anger...
Plus most of their dvd's

sorry dudes, dont wanna upset anyone but i cant stand metallica. i respect them for staying where they are for so long, but their actual music sucks. enter sandman is supposed to be like the best song ever, but i find it very boring, along with nothing else matters.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, Dude. You think you're bad, you should see the look on peoples' faces when I offer my opinion that the Beatles are the most overrated group of all time! I don't expect others to agree (and most don't), but it's just my opinion.

I liked all their stuff from "Ride The Lightning" to the "Black Album" but anything after that they seemed to gradually lose the plot.
I think the public and/or media made them bigger than they really were IMHO!

Stratrat - Im on your side.... Im not a big Beatles fan.... Dont own a single album, other than a few songs spread across compilations CD's.
Neil - I think your right.... In the earlier days, they had virtually no media coverage... But now, with DVD after DVD after Documentary after Bootleg, it all seems to be a bit much.. As much as it was interesting to watch 'Some kind of monster' i was expecting more detail in the recording side of things, rather than the emotional conflict side of things... I think that has blown them out of proportion to some extent... But i do still like the music.... But you know what they say about opinions

Metallica was a good band when they focused their heads on their music instead on the money. Theres no magic right now on their songs. But hey! , they created incredible music wich i cant live without and i thanks them for it. I also grow up with Tallica, i hated them when they gave birth LOAD and the next bunch of crap albums they made se far after the Black one... but its life. Its no longer a funny experience in their lives, at the end of the day its JUST A BUSSINES but their market is dying slowly.

I hate that "JUST A BUSSINES"! I don't know how someone can make music for money?! Metallica started doing that, and everything went wrong! Their old stuff are great, but the new one are ...

Why not?
I doubt Metallica did it 'for the money' - and if they did at least they write their own songs and play their own instruments. If you need to diss someone, look no further than Paris Hilton and her recording career.
