Best CD of 2006?
I've just been checking out NPR's Best CD's of 2006 and although I have'nt listened to the full program, there's a link at the bottom of the page to a selection of 'Reviewers Picks' at
http://www.npr.org/programs/asc/current/index.html
Each reviewer gives their top 10 CD's with a full length sample from each. Something for everyone really. I liked Band of Horses (Pink Floyd-ish), Silversun Pickups. Neko Case plus there's some Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and one of Johnny Cash's last recordings. Lots of finger-style twanging.
Then I followed the link to World Cafe's Top CD's and struck gold!

Check out 'Ray LaMontague - Empty' from CD 'Till the Sun Turns Black'
Oh my - husky male voice, dark lyrics, sweet and sorrowful cellos, great tune all with a 'train-to-nowhere' acoustic rhythm - this is on my Christmas list for sure

How much you wanna bet none of them ever even listened to Hurt - Vol. 1? They are a rock/metal/acoustic fusion band that put out the best rock album in ages, IMO.

You're probably right, eX but what can you do the reason I check these lists out is in case you find something that you didn't know about before - if someone else thinks they're great, you increase your chance of it being worth checking out - Can save a lot of time listening through a lot of stuff that almost no-one likes!

dragonforces "in human rampage" is the best album since the turn of the mellenium, and has guitaring that i think even yngwie malmsteen would have trouble matching. (and that pretty impressive)

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
