  The G3 Experience

Well folks, I'm off with my son to see Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and John Petrucci at the G3 concert tonight.
It was originally designated to be at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, but was changed at a late time to The Thebarton Theatre.

My son and I are really looking forward to it, and according to other states that have already had their G3 concerts, it should be a great night!

Got back home about an hour ago, and the concert was fantastic!
John Petrucci came out first and played a five song set, followed by the amazing Steve Vai, then finally Joe Satriani.

Then they came out together and did Voodoo Chile, Frank Zappa's My Guitar Want's To Kill Your Mama, then finally concluding with Neil Young's Rockin' In The Free World.

Even managed to score a discarded pick from Joe Satriani for my son. Now he's got himself a souvenir to remember the concert by.

Very cool, Neil - sounds like it was a great show! Which one of the three did you like best?

Even though they were all top notch, I'd have to say Steve Vai. His guitar playing skills are absolutely "out of this world."

Both Joe Satriani and John Petrucci were awesome too, but I would have to say Vai's set was the stand out for me.

When the three of them played together, I'd actually have to say John Petrucci was the one player that stood out there. He's did the opening riff on Voodoo Chile, and really did the song proud. Joe and Steve both shared vocal duties on songs. Joe on Voodoo Chile and Rockin' In The Free World, and Steve did vocals on My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama.

I wish I'd taken a photo of my son's face when he saw Steve Vai come on stage and start playing. He had a smile from one ear to the other and it was priceless. It was his very first concert, and one that he won't forget, I'm sure.

There are 2 dvd's out there of older G3 shows. Both are excellent. I also thought Steve Vai was the most interesting of the three. I thought Sat always came out first?

Sometimes Satch does come on first, but I believe they alternate sometimes!
It shows no favoritism I guess, which is a good thing!
