Do you mean something that is completely acoustic or a song that predominantly uses acoustic guitar in part of the song?
These are a few examples of total acoustic instrumentals: Little Martha (Duanne Allman), Tears In The Rain (Joe Satriani), 316 (EVH), Mood For A Day (Steve Howe), Clap (Steve Howe), Embryonic Journey (Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane)
Is that what you meant?
BTW, welcome to the forum davito!

Too many great ones to put one at number one. I'll throw in "Dead or Alive" as a fun one I like to play, though.

"From the Beginning" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer always comes to mind when I think of acoustic songs I really like.

davito,
I'm sure you've just opened a long topic of conversation!
Acoustically speaking, there are no doors or walls that confine an acoustical guitar piece. Each individual acoustic guitar melody is righteous in its own way. Your first suggestions, Stairway To Heaven and Layla, while acoustically adaptable as well as important, are not acoustic melodies in their original context.
There are a multitude of acoustic guitar genres to pick from. However, noting that this is your first post and you're from Tampa, I would seriously suggest going to iTunes and sampling the music of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Paul Stookey, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Marley, Merle Travis, Doc Watson, Tony Rice, Sebastian, John Prine, Taj Mahal, Paul Simon, Robert Johnson, to name just a few. I would also suggest sampling different ethnic acoustic guitar melodies such as American Piedmont, Celtic/Britannia, Germanic, American Western, Mid-Eastern, Gypsy, Latino, Mississippi Delta Blues, American Appalachian as well as Slack and Asiatic Guitar from the Pacific Rim. And never forget the classical genre.
In order to find the "best" acoustic song for you to play, you must sample a very wide variety of acoustic guitar music. Don't limit yourself or your mind to one acoustic sampling such as Stairway to Heaven. The world of acoustic guitar is as vast as the world we live in. And it ever increases.
It's up to you.
Les

l like Layla, but I got so many that I like, "Love of my life" by Brian May. Classical gas, some of "Roy Buchanan" stuff if awesome, and "Tommy E" is the man as far as I'm concerned. That man can't do wrong with me.
