Worth a look - about 4.30 in it has some interesting moments, as for the final few seconds

He sure can play, there's no dout about that. I thought the slower section you singled out was pretty good but I wasn't so keen on the rest. For me this was less a cover version more a jam over the chord progression of 'Little Wing'. While I think that it's best to do cover versions in your own style I also think you need to do more than suggest the original once every 8 bars as seems to happen in this version.

I've heard a few covers of this and, to my mind, you just can't beat the original (I know you're not a big fan of Jimi though Scotty). I feel the song loses out quite a bit without the lyrics. This live version is probably Jimi's best but I'm sorry to say the video is atrocious so it's pretty much audio only.

Yep. He certainly knows his way around the fretboard but I agree, it was a really a jam and two or three minutes of it would have been plenty. At about five minutes I skipped through to the end and I doubt that I missed anything he hadn't already done a few times over. Jimi did the destruction bit better too .....

I guess ripping the strings off is a pretty good indication to the audience that that was the last encore...

You have a very good memory!
Overall I am not a huge fan, though I think he did have some brilliant moments, and Little Wing is the best thing he ever did.
The Derek and the Dominos version I love as well, mainly because of EC's soloing on the track.

I personally feel Stevie Ray Vaughan just about (just) nailed the definitive Little Wing for me, although I also like Arthur Lee's version. To be honest I like anything Arthur did though..I'm sure if he was strumming on an out of tune guitar reading the ingredients of a cornflake box - I'd like it

cheers

Ian

That's my favorite version of LW as well.

It's an easy tune to work into a fingerstyle arrangement. The melody is pretty, which often gets lost because it's such a cool progression to blow over.

No doubt he's good but it all seemed a bit noisy to me. I like Jimi's of course he came up with little wing but for me SRV plays my favorite version he was the man!!!!!
