  No taste in music??????

Hi All

I thought I'd share this with you all

I have two daughters Lauren and Fern, today Fern declared that I didn't have a taste in music I like old school stuff Rush, Black Sabbath.. Along with newer music like Rammstein and Vertical Horizon, she listens to ......wait for it......MCFLY , AND I HAVE BAD TASTE IN MUSIC???? We have a friendly banter about it. My older daughter Lauren like old school and wants to play drums like Neil Peart pity Fern didn't want to play bass like Geddy Lee , but they have there own band so I leave it to them and there friend, but they do ask my thoughts on there music, they are good, but that could be a mothers love saying that They are 15 and 13 years old.

Lynn

Hey Lynn, it would be a funny old world if we all liked the same music. Having said that some of the new stuff kids are into is somewhat ???.

Now when I talk to God he said he'd understand, Stick by me I'll be your guiding hand. But don't ask me what I think of you. I might not give the answer you want me to.

Yeah, my daughter was the same way with the Spice Girls when they first came out and she was about 12 yrs old at the time. At the time she used to criticise whenever I put on some Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, or ACDC, and that I was ancient.

But now she's nearly 19, she looks back on those times as a bit of an embarrassment and admits that the music industry as she say's "needed an enema"

She still doesn't get into my stuff, but admits the music had more life to it back in the seventies and eighties than it does now.

My son, on the other hand (like his sister) has grown up on Zeppelin, ACDC, and Van Halen etc but he quite likes it. His taste in music is rather diverse since he's mates listen to modern stuff which he likes too, but he also likes me to put on my music.

I think kids taste in music changes as they grow and mature into little adults.
So don't panic Lynn, there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

When my daughter was 12 and getting interested music, she asked me, "Dad, weren't the Beatles the back up group for Paul McCartney?". Generation gap, for sure.

There are certain groups IMHO are always going to appeal to kids once they get a little more selective/mature in their music taste ... Pink Floyd, Santana, Zeppelin ... there are more of course, but can you imagine mentioning Blink182 10 years from now?

I can name a few from 10 years or so ago, Oasis, Ocean colour scene, kasabian and Greenday from not so long ago.

From this day and age???????? There is not much out there me thinks, or i could just be getting old.

"they were the backup band for John Lennon..."

Lol, yeah, you've got a point there. John had already been assasinated a few years before...so she wasn't as familiar with him.

Nah. Doc. I thought it was Georgie! Poor Paul. I feel for that man right about now. I think John is saying, "see?." And Ringo? Well. Nuff said.

My son did the whole alternative/punk/grunge/metal/death-metal thing ten years ago.
Funny. And then he saw Neil trading licks with Eddie Vedder and the boyz. He want's to jam to Bob Dylan and Neil Young now. He has been assimilated. Awesome.... It's only a matter of time until the power and influence of the 60's hit home.

Expecting teenagers (especially girls) to have good taste in music is like expecting the sun not to rise.
