Chet Atkins
According to my newspaper's "Today In History" section, Chet Atkins passed away on this date five years ago at the age of 77. Here's to one of the greatist guitarist who ever lived.

One of my all time heros. In about two weeks I am making the journey to Nashville for the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society Convention.

Hey Bob, do you have a URL with info on that convention? I travel to Nashville every other week to visit a bro-in-law who recently had a lung transplant there at Vanderbilt. I think I would like to attend that convention.

I love Chet Atkins, man that guitar sure hits the spot. I recently learned to play Yakety Axe ( i cant play his harder stuff )
But man after listening to Chet albums hearing him play with les paul, jerry reed, tommy, + others ill never look at a guitar the same way. Chet is in my top 10 for sure.

And such a gentleman, too. My Dad took me to see him when I was 5 or 6. Boots Randolph was there too and they played yakkety sax/ax together. (At least, my memory from 45 years ago says they did ). He could play country with that alternating bass line and then play a beautiful classical piece with equal virtuosity. Amazing guitarist.

Watching Chet Atkins on TV was my first introduction to guitar. A very cheap guitar and the How to Play Guitar by Chet Atkins, began a 50 year love affair with music and the guitar. Not many like him...

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
