  Byrds Vocalists

I was playing through some of my tunes and realized I had just done songs by Gram Parsons, Gene Clark, David Crosby, and Roger McGuinn. All members of The Byrds (for those of you old enough to remember them ) and I thought, wow, talk about vocal prowess. They just don't make them like thay used too. Just a thought.

Hey- I may play slow, but I sure am imprecise!

Eight Miles High was always one of my favorites. Leo Kottke also did a very good version of that song as well. I have eight sisters and 3 brothers. I'm # 10 of 12 and therefore grew up listening to a lot of really good music. Being born in 1961 with that many older brothers and sisters, some of the first songs/albums I can remember were the Beatles(Abby Road), Neal Young(After The Gold Rush, Harvest), Carol King (Tapestry), CSN&Y when Neal was with them.

I just found this if your interested. A home page for The Byrds with a few tabs.

Did Roger McGuinn do vocals for Eight Miles High?

All great things are only a number of small things that have carefully been collected together.

Gene Clark sang lead and co-wrote the song- it concerns his fear of flying.

The Byrds have always been a favorite of mine; especially Sweetheart of the Rodeo. But I wouldn't kick any of their albums out of bed.

LOLOLOLOL---fear of flying MAC?--or just feeling like He was?---I was alive and kicking in the 60's and I don't think it's about airplanes at all.

Yeah yeah- I was around also and your point is well taken LOL! The name of the song came from an airplane flight in which Crosby told Clark they were seven miles high.
For the song they changed it to eight. Most of us know that the song is about drug use and alienation , but Clark still maintains it was about his fear of flying (in airplanes) which was also one of the resons he left the The Byrds. Go figure. I'm sure most of us from those days can rationalize some of our behavior.
