Beginners have to pull together - some good links

Fellow Beginners,

I was learning some elementary Blues stuff on the Mel Bay site, which is a good one, and the writer referred to playing a piece with lots of "double stops". I had no clue what he meant, so I did a Google on the term and found another site with lots of very good instruction for beginners... all the way from step 1 and upward. Be sure to check out the section on playing lead guitar without having to have years of experience first.

Very nice site: http://www.betterguitar.com/

Lots of good instruction: http://www.guitarsessions.com/

When I progress from "abominable" to "crummy" I'm going to get Kirk's Plane method.

Thanks Jim--I think I can speak for most people here--links to learning are always appreciated. Scott

You're welcome Scott. Man, there's lots of good stuff out there. Guitarists are generous I guess to put in all the time and effort for others. Including the leaders of this site, of course.

I mistakenly referred to "lead guitar" in my original post... should have said "improvisation".

For beginners you can also go to www.Jfrocks.com Click on "Buy CD's." Then click on "What's Available" and click on "Beginners 101."

My favorite beginner site beside this site is:

http://guitar.about.com/od/freebeginnerlessons/

reason: its pretty well organized and does a good job of mixing songs and theory. Many other sites have a lot of content but are pretty confusing. The beginner at first needs a structured path, not just a jumble of information.

There is a product sold on this site called "Plane Talk" I recommend. It can be downloaded as a .PDF

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
