Regd Different Genres of Music. - kush

Hi All

I'm so glad to be with my Family again !!!!

Sorry If my question sounds too basic, but I really need to know this and I request you all to help me out

Actually being in India, I've had no oppurtunity to know and understand different Genre's of Music. I even dont know how the different Genre's sound like. I really want to know, so that I'd have a feel of things here. Hence I request you to kindly give me an example of the following genres (Song-Artist), to which I could listen and know what is it all about :

1. Blues
2. Country
3. Jazz
4. Classical ( Is Fur Elise a good example of this genre ??? )
5. Difference between Rock and Heavy Metal ?

Kindly give me examples, so that I'll obtain the same songs, listen to them and understand.

Thanks and Lots of Care & Affection to all
Yours
Kush

Hey Garry !!!

Thanks for the advice pal . I will do it . I was just thinking that knowing from people who know and love listening to a particular Genre could give me a better choice and a better chance of knowing that particular Genre.

Thanks and Regards

Kush

Hey Kush, everyone should give you their opinion of who they feel represents a particular genre best, so... You will get a good variety from which to choose...!!!

Here is mine...

1. Blues: BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughan
2. Country: Carl Perkens, Buck Owens
3. Jazz: Joe Williams, Count Basie, Charlie Parker
4. Classical: Beethoven, Brahms, Nicolo Paganini
5. Difference between Rock and Heavy Metal ? Well, listen to Deep Purple or Led Zeppelin... That's Rock
Now listen to Metallica or Megadeth... That's Metal...

Have fun...!!!
Ben

PS. can't get out of it that easy Gazza...!!!! LOL...!!!

Blues: John Lee Hooker - House Rent Boogie, BB King - The Thrill Is Gone, Stevie Ray Vaughan - Cold Shot
Country - Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire, Willie Nelson - Blue Eyes Cryin' In The Rain
Jazz - George Benson - Breezin', Pat Metheny - Daybreak
Classical - Segovia (I'm not a big time Classical guy, so that's about all I can think of off the top of my head)
Rock is much more easy on the average person's ears than metal. Metal has a tendency to be harsh and aggressive, while rock can be soft and mellow.

Welcome back!

I'll try to give you albums to look for where I can.

1. Blues -
Albert King "King of the Blues Guitar"
Lightnin' Hopkins
"Remember Me" or "Shaggy Dog"
Robert Johnson he only recorded somehting like 20 songs.
Big Bill Broonzy

2. Country -
Somebody with more knowledge can help you with this
I always liked Alabama, though.

3. Jazz -
Russell Malone, "Sweet Georgia Peach
Django Reinhardt anything!
Those are just guitarists, if you want some other Jazz check out:
Miles Davis "Kinda Blue" "Birth of the Cool" or "Miles Smiles"
Art Blakey Quintet "A Night at Birdland Vols.1, 2"
Sonny Rollins "Saxophone Giant"
John Coltrane "Giant Steps" or "A Love Supreme"
Count Basie "Whirlybird"

4. Classical -
My favorite all time is Beethoven's 7th, that's a full symphony or you could go back a few years and listen to Vivaldi's Four Seasons, just strings.

5. Difference between Rock and Heavy Metal?

Listen to anything by the following:

Rock -
Beatles
The Who
Doobie Brothers
Jimi Hendrix
Santana
Van Halen
Journey
Bachman Turner Overdrive
Lynyrd Skynyrd

Man, there's too many... start with these and see where it takes you.

Metal -
Black Sabbath
AC/DC
Iron Maiden
Metallica

Happy Listening!

-Dave

If you go to the link below Kush, you can hear samples of several different genre, from lots of artists.
Try to resist the temptation to buy them all though.

Hope this helps,
