Conventional String and Fretboard Verbal References

Please correct me if I'm wrong but this has been my
understanding

Up the fretboard is towards the sound hole
Down the fretboard is towards the head stock

high and low refer to pitch
top and bottom refer to actual physical position

the low E string is the lowest in pitch the one above the A string, closest to the ceiling.
the high E string is the one under the B string, closest to the floor.

but the bottom string is the one closest to the floor
and the top is the one closest to the ceiling.

I've seen videos where people described themselves as

"I am a pro Guitar Player/Teacher." saying the bottom
strings are the bass strings.

It all sounds right to me, except that I've always referred to the bass strings as the "bottom" strings also - even though they're physically at the top! It just seems to make sense to me, since they provide the 'bottom end' of your sound.

I'm 100% with you 6 String, if I was a complete beginner who'd never touched a guitar before and you described everything to me like you do I'd understand it perfectly. Much better way of doing it in my opinion.

I'm with Stratrat on the bottom/top strings - with the top E meaning the thin high 1st string. I agree with everything else, though.

fretsource reminded me I forgot to mention the numbering of the strings

1st meaning the one closest to the floor, the thin e.

so the higher in number the lower in pitch, which must confuse some people.

I've been googling around and finding conflicting views, maybe I should just ask Esteban and what ever he says is wrong lol
