  Wrong Lyrics - Misinterpretation

I made an embarrassing mistake at a jam session on New Years Eve that is haunting me now.

While singing Jim Hendrix's Purple Haze I sang very clearly and loudly:

"Scouse me while I kiss this guy" Most of the room burst into laughter and the rest of band stopped playing. I was then reminded that lyrics should be "excuse me while I touch the sky".

Doh!

Anyone else had a similar experience or misinterpretation of lyrics?

There was a commercial of two guys trying to sing "Rock the Casbah" and it was so true I almost fell of of the couch. Hate to admit it but sometimes what I say is what I thought I heard and not what I really heard.

LOL

Have you got that on video that would be a classic

I reckon yours are the correct lyrics Krissovo, they fit in with the whole free love culture of the time.

I walk around the house singing sometimes, I was singing Avril Lavignes Complicated one day one line was suppose to be this: and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
no no no, but I thought it was: and promise me I'm never gonna find you naked, no no no, not as good as yours but the kids had a good laugh at my expense.

It was being filmed but I dont know where it has ended up. I was promised that it would be placed on youtube by a smug spotty student who was at the jam session.

If it turns up I shall post as I bet my face was a picture

I've just got a picture in my head of the band stopping playing sort of like when Marty McFly does the over the top guitar solo in back to the future, hope you weren't too embarrassed Krissovo it was New Years eve after all, that's a good excuse

I agree with starsailor on the Marty Mcfly side of it. Truth be known I think everyone here has flubbed up now and again. I think even pros get it wrong every now and again. I have personally been to few shows where the guy forgot the words to the song. The funniest one though was the guy singing was the one who wrote the song.

So in short your not along and I am sure next time you will remember the words.

Few years ago I attended a bachelor party at one of those uhmm, dancing places, after about the third rotation of Areosmiths "dude looks like a lady"{recently released at the time} and of course a few too many "toasts" I was singing or screaming more like it "do the funky lady" and thinking...how fitting of a song for this bar. My friends remind me of it all the time...

krissovo, I wouldn't worry about it too much......you were there to entertain and making people laugh is certainly entertaining. Just laugh with them and don't take it too seriously! Just tell them you were trying to get their attention and see if they were really listening!

Don't worry about it Krissovo, that lyric may be one of the misheard lyrics of all time. I'd say your bandmember actually got it more wrong than you, the correct line is "'Scuse me while I kiss the sky".

There's even a website and book named after it - The Archive of Misheard Lyrics - which gives some of the best examples of misheard lyrics and their corrections.

Don't worry Krissovo, we ALL make mistakes. That's what makes us human 'eh. The important thing is to learn from them, but sometimes even that is easier said than done.

I always sing Manfred Mann's...

Blinded by the light,
dressed up like a douch,
another roamer in the night

krissovo,
I used to do this all the time. My kids would always correct me.
No dad, the words are bla, bla, bla. I think its funny. I remember seeing a performer who's whole act was using sound alike words to perform a whole song. He was delightful to listen to.

This song was written by Bruce Springsteen I found out recently.
