Eric Clapton: Crossroads Guitar Festival 2007 DVD

Hey, I don't know if any of you may have seen it yet but I just got a copy for xmas and I've already watched it four times already. It's fantastic and I highly recommend it!

Some highlights of the show (of which there were many) for me were Eric Clapton of course, Jeff Beck was awesome, as was his pretty young bass player Tal Wilkenfield, she was absolutely awesome on bass.

Other standouts were Steve Winwood doing a few songs with Eric from their Blind Faith days. Apart from them, most of the familiar faces were back like Jimmy Vaughan, BB King, Hubert Sumlin, Robert Cray, John Mayer, and Vince Gill.

Anyway, it's well worth getting or at least seeing if you can lay your hands on a copy.

I'm gonna get it just to watch John Mayer play. If anyone has checked out his live album "Try!" it's amazing. He's such a spot on player it's ridiculous.

Oh, and I guess I'll check out Clapton too. :-p

You lucky dog!!! 4 times?? I got the DVD set and have only had time to give disc 2 a quick preview. Seems with the kids out of school and me working a few days this week, both TVs with DVD players have been taken over by the kids!!

When they're not using them, the wife wants to watch some Christmas special! AAARRGH!!

So, downstairs to the office computer I go, plug in the Dean Evo through the J-Station and jam away on BTs!!!

Oh the suffering!!

Maybe tomorrow afternoon!! Maybe not....football games are on and Mom & the boy want to watch those!! HA!!! One of these days!!

John Mayer's Gravity performance at that show was absolutely amazing.

I've had it for about two weeks, my personal fav. is Johnny Winters, Highway 61 Revisited (watched it about 10 times) Derrek Truck's is in awe of Winters, without a doubt Derreks playing with one of his idol's. Let's hope there are more of these festivals !!

Johnny Winter is awesome I think too.He got hurt awhile back when he fell off stage and now sits down. The origional version he plaid back in the 60's was on 1 1/2 albums... Yes a half album! He said he didn't have enough material to do 2 full albums , so one side was blank! Everyone says Highway 61 was first done by Bob Dylan, but I heard that it was done first by someone else.

Hi
This is what I know"
There are two songs, Highway 61 and Highway 61 Revisited.
Highway 61 Revisited, words and music by Dylan (1965)
But maybe someone else has better info ?

Sounds like the usual SUSPECTS guilty of the blues ... I have not seen cross roads 07 chicago but I did see the the 1st from Texas and thought it was great too.

I DID get the EC biography and am about half way through. A great read so far and Eric is a very lucky man to still be with us. Better then SKYDOG.

Yeah, I thought that was great seeing this big cheezy grin from ear to ear on Derek Trucks. It was a nice thing to see Derek go up to Johnny Winters afterwards and make a point of shaking his hand.

Hi
I read this morning that Johnny signed Derrek's guitar at the festival.
I sure hope Johnny comes out with a root's blues (National Slide- Acoustic type) CD, let's keep our fingers cross

I also found that, Highway 61 (Blues) sometimes call 61 highway (blues) was by Big Joe Williams, maybe why Dylan called his Highway 61 "Revisited". Dylan was very much a blues artist in his early years. Anyone know more about this subject ??

I dropped a few hints for my xmas list, but nobody took any notice.
But I will get it. Ive got the Texas Crossroads dvd. If it's as good as that, it's worth the wait.

Well I don't think I'd call Dylan a "blues" artist in his early years!
His thing was folk music with artists like Woody Guthrie as mentor.
He had a almost supernatural way of writing music lyrics to music that freaked everyone out! Jimi Hendrix supossedly carried a book around with him that had Bob Dylans' lyrics in it! Early Dylan is a page in music all should read! His songs are fun to play, but beware...you can easily get caught up in them and find they change how you look at music!

So far, I've watched bits & pieces of Disk two and then a few off of disk One. I cannot think of a good reason, other than she's a decent songwriter and looks pretty good, why Sheryl Crow is there.
Her song was WAAAAyyyyy too long, at least in my opinion.

And John McLaughlin was pretty much uninspired. A lot of fast runs of scales was all it sounded like, to me. But what do I know?

But hey, again, just my opinion. That and 89 cents just might get you a coffee at McDonald's.

And I've still not had an opportunity to sit and watch the whole thing. One of these days!!!

Hey Andy...You gotta remember that John McLaughlin is trying to communicate back to the rest of us left on earth! He has always played music , that at the time , most didn't get(including me).
To really appreciate his music takes an intensity that can be difficult if you are not thinking in his spiritual/Technical terms!
Jeff Beck really steals the show on this dvd, but a reuniting of Blind Faith members is truley a wow!
Sheryl Crow is good because she can stand beside a guitar legend and hold her own! If I was playing beside Eric Clapton I would be so nervous I don't think I could even hold the guitar the right way!!!!
