  Mississippi Delta Blues

I wonder if anyone here can help, about 30 years ago when the US had it's Bi-Centenary the US Government sponsored a world tour by two Delta Blues exponents to showcase to the world this style of American music, they toured Oz, I recall seeing them play at the old Swanbourne Hotel in Perth Western Australia.

I was chatting to an American Blues player last week who remembered the tour but neither of us can remember who the two players were, all I can remember is one was black and was probably 15+ years older than the other.

Thanks for any help - If I can pull this off I might score a lesson:-)

Anyone here who's not confused, probably doesn't understand what's going on.

Hi
If you can remember what type of guitars they were playing, this might be a big help, such as metal body "National's" or Wood body Reso type, electric, acoustic? Can you remember any of the songs? Check out Amazon.com, old blues recordings. Also there would be a good chance that who ever they were, they would have been playing festivals at that time in the U.S.
One other thing, did either play harp (harmonica)
All this would help narrow it down.
Please let me know if this helps
Rick

G'day Rick

Sorry for delay, been away over the holiday break.

I recall the white guy played Harp and a Martin D-28, they both played the National and the Black guy played a few with a Strat., both did vocals but no harmonies.

To demonstrate the range of the Mississippi accoustic blues style they also played a few early Elvis numbers, 'Train Train' & 'That's allright Mama' are a couple that stand out because at the time I hadn't thought of them as 'Blues material'.

I have searched the net for any reference to these guys or the tours (Maybe there were more than these two touring at the same time) but I can't find a reference anywhere.

Hi Bill
The person who could answer this (I would think) would be Stefan Grossman. You can find his e-mail and web site by googling his name.
Also there is new book (published 2007): Blues "the Complete Story"
My daughter gave me a copy for Christmas, there are over 500 of pages of blues information
