Here's one for Jess
Stumbled across this ridiculously fast shredder and figured I'd give a link for Jess to check out:

Great solo....yep, turn the volume "so low" you can't hear it and...kidding...just kidding. Not my fav but I would like "some" of that speed in these old fingers of mine.

I'm with you- I'm not big into shredding, but I was definitely impressed with that kind of speed.

That was some kind of speed but I think that the 347th note was a little flat

It was kinda hard for me to tell - the 347th note came about 0:03 into the song and was only 0.000000179 seconds long. Besides which, I have a hard time even telling if their guitars are even in tune, let alone if a note is sharp or flat - no melody whatsover, just "wheedly wheedly wheedly".
He's definitely fast, but I'd much rather to listen to some nice tasty melodic licks like this guy:

I like solos like this. Both the one at the beginning and the one at 3:24.
I can appreciate the fast solos as well as the melodic solos. I prefer ones that do a mix of both. This is just my opinion but I find both the busy solos and the slow ones tend to follow a formula. Fast ones you play a scale well.........fast. The slow melodic ones, you pick a rhythm, usually something similar to the rhythm in the song, throw a few bends here and there. That's not to say that solos are easy. Both ways you need an excellent understanding of the instrument. But in the end, if I listen to one or the other too much, I tend to get bored (which can happen during the song if the solo goes on for too long).
We're not gonna listen to you, because we are open minded.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
