  Songs you wish where yours...

Hello friends,

I heard on the radio the other day "Lover Why?" by Century. Hadn't heard that one in ages. The "power" moment where it says "why do flowers die..." and the whole production made me think: "That is a song I would have liked to do".

Youtube - Century - Lover Why?

Another one is White Snake's "Here I go again". That song is me...

Sanity Advisory: This is pure 80s video, from the hairs to the girl dancing on the car... Don't watch it if you are under 20 *grins* Young minds are not ready for those 80s hairs and clothes.
YouTube - Whitesnake - Here I Go Again

Curiously enough, I usually listen to Jaco Pastorius, Tom Waits ("God's away on business" would be in this list too of 'my songs', but it would never end), Iron Maiden or Kiss... All this groups have songs I would have liked, but these two songs mentioned in this post are more 'me'.

Of course, McCartney's "Yesterday" would be great, lots of air play, lots of $ royalties... But the question is more from a 'creative' point of view.

Aah, the 80s big hair, big shoulder pads and yuppies, good to hear Jaco Pastorius I went to see him when he was with weather report, sadly Josef Zawinal died this year and Jaco had an untimely death 20 years ago which was a great loss to music.

On the subject of songs I would have liked to call my own I'd have

Reelin in the years - Steely Dan, Becker and Fagen are consumate professionals it was a rare occurence for one of their songs to leave the studio without being perfect.

Creep - Radiohead, I like this because it creates an oppressive atmosphere and Radiohead are always innovative, I like the jarring guitar break in it as well.

Highway to hell - AC/DC, I just think this is one of the all time greats of heavy metal, Bon Scott was a real heavy Metal Singer and Malcolm Youngs guitar riff is a classic.

Birdland - Weather Report, Just a great piece of music performed by brilliant Musicians

Weather with you - Crowded House:, I've always liked Crowded House, this is just a great feelgood song for me I would love to write something like this. songguitardude:

You don't stop laughing when you grow old; you grow old when you stop laughing.

Fun post, and starsailor I like your choices... re: Steely Dan: Skunk Baxter doesn't get enough praise for his guit work IMO, with Steely Dan and the Doobies. The Radiohead tune is true adolescent misery, how many of us have felt that way...

As for my picks I'd go with some driving pop tunes like:
Paperback Writer - Beatles
I'll Do You - Wire Train
Mirror in the Bathroom - The English Beat

These songs would have been a blast to play on stage and to have the satisfaction of owning the rights would be cool... Bones

I feel the same about Jeff Skunk Baxter never got the credit he deserved, he was a great guitarist, Radioheads songs are quite miserable but I think Thom Yorkes a genius I've seen them in interviews and they're actually quite funny guys.

Mirror in the Bathroom is a great song, I liked a lot of the Two Tone bands, The Selector, Madness and of course the Specials, The Beat have actually reformed and are off on tour again
