Me and Ringo Starr
I was chuffed tonight to see that the episode of "This is your Life" featuring Glenn Shorrock was on TV again. I watched it a few years ago and caught a glimpse of some footage of a TV show I was on. This time I filmed the TV set.
Glenn was the voice of "Little River Band", of course, and when he left that band he put together his own (rather less successful) band. I was one of the twangers. One of the promo gigs we did was "The Parkinson Show". Michael Parkinson had (still does) a variety show that was based in the UK and Australia. On this particular show, he had Glenn and Ringo Starr and his wife Barbara Bach on as guests. Glenn (and the band) performed his single, then he was interviewed. Ringo came on last. He and Barbara were fairly tipsy and acting silly as they'd been cruising Sydney Harbour all afternoon drinking white wine in the hot sun. At the end of the show, Michael told Ringo that they'd set up another drum kit and would he be so kind as to join the Glenn Shorrock band for an impromptu Blue Suede Shoes to finish it all off. Ringo was right into it and so we did it.
In this footage, used in the "This is your Life" show, you see Glenn and Ringo, then Michael Parkinson and Barbara come into frame, and lastly, yours truly, on slide, insisting on having the last word as usual with a note only dogs and GfB&Bers can hear ... on the same Strat I still play. For the last 23 years, I've been able to say "I've played with a Beatle".

Wait a minute, I read an interview with Ringo once where he claimed to have played with Kirk Lorange. I thought he was just building himself up! (LOL)

Wow, thanks for sharing Kirk. Did you get to have a chat with Ringo?

Great, I enjoyed that.
Must be great to say you've played with a Beatle, lucky you.
I miss the comfort in being sad

Yes, Neil, we had a bit of a drink and chat with them all after the show. He was just as you'd expect him to be: friendly, cracking jokes. I don't think he'd remember me, though.

Great video Kirk, very cool .
Seems like I've been having one of those days
Since sometime back in 1998
And a turnaround is surely on the way
Or maybe that's me spinning down the drain

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
