Playing the Guitar at Funerals
At the moment I am in California and attended the funeral for my niece who died at the age of 25 in a tragic car accident.
When the pallbearers brought the casket to the place of rest and the minister said the last words, a friend of the family sat on his guitar case and played 'vayo con dios' as my sister and brother in law released some doves. It was a moment I will never forget.
Can anyone reccomend other songs that they think would be appropriate at a funeral?
thanks in advance

That is very touching and beautiful. At the last funeral I played at, I played and sang I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe.

Find someone from New Orleans, they can surely point you to funeral music.

Two in recent times from a modern rock band would be Alterbridge's "In Loving Memory" and "Blackbird"(original, not a cover). Those two songs are great.

Speaking of that, at the last funeral I attended there was this NO jazz quintet playing that song. I imagine a guitar rendition of some sort would be a welcome thing, too.

CSS...so sorry to hear about your niece. I hear "Wind Beneath My Wings" played and sung at a lot of funerals, it's a beautiful song.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
