something funny about my new dvd

i just picked up a learn to play guns n roses dvd.i went straight to the knockin' on heavens door 1st solo as i'd learnt the rhythm parts a while ago.the instructor started it on the 12th fret.when i picked that note it sounded different even though my guitar was in tune.anyway throughout the whole solo i had to play it a half step lower to sound the same as his.i don't get it

Maybe you skipped the part where the tutor says that the whole guitar is tuned half step down? Just a thought, I haven't played that song so I don't know if that is the case with tuning...

All best

Edit: Just checked and yes... In this song the whole guitar is tuned half step down... And this is a big NO-NO for skipping parts of the video...

If you want to play along to the original song you'll need to tune down a half step

oops, I missed namiguShun's post...

I don't know how's that possible... Are you sure that the guitar you played the rhythm on was in standard tuning? Maybe it was already half step down... Or maybe rhythm part on the dvd is played in standard tuning... Try to play along with the original song... You'll see that it's half step down...
